Individual county maps are useful for identifying 1885 Nebraska transportation routes, railroads, canals, streams and rivers, cities, towns and villages, and early Nebraska place names. One-room schoolhouses, churches, cemeteries, and other 19th century features are also included in the county maps.

The 297 Nebraska city and village plat maps in the Atlas are detailed with some early property owners identified; industrial sites including a variety of stores, factories and mills; State and local government sites: court houses, churches, schools, fair grounds, asylums & hospitals; and much more.
